About diagnosis, treatment and recovery
Can the penis be preserved in penile cancer, and what organ-preserving options are available?
In early, limited lesions the penis can often be preserved; organ-preserving options such as topical therapy, laser, wide local excision and glansectomy are considered.
When is penectomy (removal of the penis) needed, and what is the difference between partial and total?
It is needed in advanced local disease where organ-preserving methods are not sufficient; partial penectomy removes part of the penis, total penectomy removes all of it, supported by reconstruction when needed.
Why are the groin lymph nodes important; what are sentinel lymph node biopsy and VEIL?
The groin lymph nodes are decisive for prognosis; sentinel lymph node biopsy provides selective evaluation, while VEIL is a minimally invasive video-endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy that reduces wound complications.
Does HPV cause penile cancer, and what can be done to prevent it?
HPV infection is a known risk factor; good hygiene, quitting smoking and reducing HPV-related risks contribute to prevention.
Will treatment affect urinary and sexual function; what are the reconstruction options?
It may be affected depending on the method chosen; organ-preserving approaches prioritize function, and reconstructive surgery options that improve function and appearance after oncologic surgery are offered.
Can radiotherapy or brachytherapy be an alternative to surgery, and for whom is it suitable?
In selected early cases it can be an organ-preserving alternative; in locally advanced or node-positive disease it can be applied as a complement.
When is chemotherapy needed in node-positive or advanced disease?
In node-positive or advanced disease it may be needed as systemic therapy with neoadjuvant (pre-operative downsizing) or palliative intent.
How is follow-up done after treatment, and what is done if recurrence occurs?
Follow-up is done with wound care, functional rehabilitation and regular check-ups, including tele-oncology when needed; in case of recurrence the board re-evaluates the case.
How does the process work for patients coming from abroad?
It begins with file sharing; the process is planned with board review, a price-guaranteed offer and visa, transfer, accommodation and medical interpreter support.
What approach is followed regarding privacy and sensitivity?
Your privacy is respected throughout the process; your information is handled confidentially and the treatment plan is created with sensitivity to your functional expectations.
