Frequently asked questions
Why is bowel cleansing before colonoscopy so important?
Entire visibility of the intestinal wall depends on the adequacy of cleaning. Remaining fecal residues may cause small polyps and early lesions to be overlooked. In case of insufficient cleaning, the process may be left unfinished and may need to be repeated. For this reason, the preparation instructions given must be followed exactly.
Is taking a biopsy during endoscopy a bad sign?
No. Biopsy is often part of routine evaluation. It is taken to examine inflammation, the presence of microbes or tissue structure. The procedure is painless and results appear within a few days. Taking a biopsy alone does not mean that there is a malignant condition.
Can I stop taking Crohn's disease medications when my symptoms go away?
You shouldn't quit. The disappearance of symptoms does not mean that the inflammation in the intestine has completely receded. When treatment is stopped, the risk of exacerbation increases and permanent damage to the intestine may develop over time. Drug change or discontinuation is planned only after endoscopic and laboratory evaluation.
Does everyone with gallstones need ERCP?
No. ERCP is not performed for stones in the bladder, but for stones and obstructions that have fallen into the bile duct. Treatment of bladder stones is surgery. If there is suspicion of stones in the bile duct, evaluation is first made with magnetic resonance cholangiography or endoscopic ultrasound.
