Hand eczema is a common problem characterized by redness, dryness, cracks and itching on the palms and fingers. It is more common in jobs that require frequent water contact, use of detergent and gloves.
In the evaluation, the trigger is first looked for: contact substances, occupation, household chores and previous allergy history are questioned. When deemed necessary, contact allergy is investigated with patch testing.
The basis of treatment is preventive measures. Reducing frequent hand washing, use of warm water, appropriate gloves and regular moisturizing are recommended. In addition, creams that reduce inflammation are used. In resistant cases, light therapy is considered among the options.
