Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between robotic surgery and open surgery?
In robotic surgery, surgery is performed with arms placed through several small incisions in the abdominal wall. The image is three-dimensional and enlarged. In open surgery, a single, larger incision is used. Which method is appropriate is determined by evaluating the location of the tumor, its spread and the general condition of the patient.
Is surgery always necessary for kidney stones?
No. A significant portion of small stones pass spontaneously. Fluid intake and pain control may be sufficient during this period. If the stone blocks the kidney, is accompanied by infection, pain cannot be controlled, or the stone is large enough to not pass on its own, interventional treatment is planned.
Is stent placement necessary after ureterorenoscopy?
It is not necessary in every patient. A stent is placed to secure urine flow in cases such as edema in the ureter, a large stone, a prolonged procedure, or the presence of a single kidney. It is usually temporary and removed after a short time in outpatient conditions. The decision is made based on the findings during the procedure.
What examinations are required after urological cancer diagnosis?
After diagnosis, staging is performed to determine the extent of the disease. In this context, blood tests, imaging such as ultrasound, computerized tomography or magnetic resonance and, if necessary, bone examination may be requested. The treatment option is determined together with the patient after staging is completed.
