About diagnosis, treatment and recovery
Does postmenopausal bleeding always mean cancer?
No; postmenopausal bleeding does not always mean cancer, but it must always be evaluated. An endometrial biopsy clarifies the cause.
How is an endometrial biopsy done for diagnosis, and is it painful?
A thin cannula takes a tissue sample from inside the uterus in a short time; it is usually done in an office setting and causes little beyond mild cramping.
What are the advantages of robotic surgery over open surgery in uterine cancer?
Robotic surgery offers smaller incisions, less bleeding, shorter stay, less pain and faster recovery.
How does molecular classification (POLE/MMR/p53) change my treatment?
The molecular subtype defines the need for additional treatment and the intensity of follow-up; some subtypes behave better while others may require extra treatment.
Is radiotherapy or brachytherapy always required after surgery?
No; whether it is needed is decided by the oncology council according to the tumor’s stage and risk profile. It may not be required in low-risk cases.
I want to have children; is a fertility-sparing (hormone therapy) option possible?
In selected low-grade, early-stage cases a fertility-sparing approach with progestin-based hormone therapy may be considered; eligibility is determined by the council.
What is sentinel lymph node sampling and does it reduce the risk of lymphedema?
It is targeted sampling of the first draining lymph nodes; by limiting extensive lymphadenectomy it reduces the risk of lymphedema.
Will removing my ovaries cause early menopause?
In premenopausal patients, removing the ovaries can cause early menopause; this is discussed with you beforehand and protective options are considered when appropriate.
If Lynch syndrome is present, is genetic testing needed for my family?
Lynch syndrome is hereditary; when diagnosed, genetic counseling and screening/genetic testing for family members may be recommended.
How does the process and follow-up work for international patients?
A seamless process is offered with visa, transfer, accommodation and medical translator support; follow-up continues with regular check-ups and tele-oncology.
