About diagnosis, treatment and recovery
If a brain tumor is called "benign," why is treatment still needed?
Even a benign tumor can raise pressure within the closed skull, compress critical structures and cause seizures or neurological loss; therefore monitoring or treatment is planned by council decision.
Why are molecular tests such as IDH, MGMT and 1p/19q important?
These markers clarify tumor type, predict treatment response and guide the post-surgical radiotherapy/drug decision.
What is awake craniotomy and why is it used?
For tumors near speech and motor areas, these functions are tested while the patient is awake so the tumor is removed safely; the goal is to combine maximal resection with function preservation.
Is surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy done first?
The order is not fixed; it is set at the multidisciplinary neuro-oncology council according to tumor type, grade, location and molecular profile.
When is stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) preferred?
For small, well-defined or inoperable lesions; it can be preferred to focus a high dose in one or few sessions while minimizing dose to surrounding brain.
Does a pituitary tumor always require surgery?
No; some pituitary tumors can be managed with medication, others require endoscopic surgery. The decision is made at the council considering hormonal activity and visual impact.
Can the tumor always be removed completely?
The goal is "maximal safe resection"; if proximity to critical structures limits full removal, the residual is managed with radiotherapy and drugs.
What documents should I have for a second opinion?
Current brain MRI/CT images (raw data if possible), any pathology and molecular test reports, operative notes and current medication list.
How am I followed up after treatment?
With regular MRI, neurological examination and tele-oncology when needed; follow-up intervals are set by the council according to tumor type.
How does the process work for international patients?
You share your file remotely; the council provides a preliminary evaluation, a plan and a transparent offer; visa, transfer, accommodation and medical interpreter support are provided.
