About diagnosis, treatment and recovery
How is the treatment sequence decided in head and neck cancer?
The sequence is not predetermined; whether surgery or chemoradiation comes first is decided together by the tumor board according to tumor site, stage, HPV/p16 status and the goal of function preservation.
Can my larynx and voice be preserved?
In many cases organ-preserving concurrent chemoradiation can preserve the larynx and voice instead of surgery; suitability is assessed by the board.
What is TORS (transoral robotic surgery) and who is it for?
It is robotic surgery performed through the mouth without external incisions; in tonsil, tongue base and selected pharynx tumors it offers less morbidity and faster recovery.
Why does HPV status matter?
In oropharyngeal cancers, HPV/p16 positivity influences treatment intensity and prognosis; therefore therapy is personalized to your profile.
Why is IMRT radiotherapy critical in head and neck?
IMRT/VMAT delivers a high dose to the tumor while sparing salivary glands, jaw and swallowing muscles; it reduces side effects such as dry mouth.
What is done for speech and swallowing problems after treatment?
Speech-swallowing therapy, dental-maxillofacial rehabilitation and nutritional support are integral parts of care, planned throughout the process.
Which documents are needed for a second opinion?
Existing imaging (PET-CT, MR/CT), biopsy/pathology report and, if available, HPV/p16 result and prior treatment summaries are sufficient.
How does the process work for international patients?
Your file is evaluated remotely, the board decision and offer are shared; visa, transfer, accommodation and medical interpreter support are provided.
How long does treatment take?
Duration depends on stage and chosen modality; the exact timeline becomes clear after the board decision and plan.
How is follow-up carried out?
Through regular examinations, imaging and necessary molecular tests; sustained with remote tele-oncology consultations.
