About diagnosis, treatment and recovery
What advantages does robotic radical prostatectomy offer over open surgery?
Small incisions mean less bleeding, less pain, a short hospital stay and rapid recovery; three-dimensional magnified vision enables a nerve-sparing, precise operation.
Does the robot or the surgeon perform the operation?
The operation is always performed by the surgeon, who directs the robotic arms from the console under 3D vision; the robot does not act on its own.
What is the nerve-sparing technique and is erectile function (potency) preserved?
It is a technique that preserves the neurovascular bundles around the prostate; in suitable cases it improves the chance of retaining erectile function, though the outcome depends on tumor location and stage.
When does urinary control (continence) recover after surgery?
Urinary control usually recovers gradually over time; bladder neck and sphincter-sparing techniques and rehabilitation support this process. The timeline varies by patient.
Is pelvic lymph node dissection required in every patient?
No; lymph node dissection is performed when the risk level requires it. It is usually not needed in low-risk, organ-confined cases.
How long does the catheter stay and how is it removed?
The catheter stays for an appropriate period to allow the urethral anastomosis to heal and is removed in a controlled way at the right time; the duration is set per patient and recovery.
How is PSA monitored after surgery and what does it mean?
After the prostate is removed the PSA is expected to remain very low; regular PSA monitoring helps assess whether the disease remains under control.
How do the Gleason score and PSA value affect the surgical decision?
The PSA value, Gleason score and staging imaging determine the tumor’s risk level and form the basis of the multidisciplinary decision on the appropriate technique.
Who is a candidate for the Retzius-sparing approach?
This posterior approach without entering the space of Retzius is preferred in suitably selected cases and aims to support earlier urinary control; eligibility is assessed by the council.
How long is recovery and when can I return to work?
Thanks to small incisions, return to daily life is usually fast; full recovery and return-to-work time vary by patient, type of work and healing.
Is there post-operative rehabilitation for sexual health and urinary control?
Yes; post-operative rehabilitation for continence and sexual health is planned and your follow-up continues accordingly.
How does the process work for international patients?
After your tests are securely shared you receive a free second opinion and quote; end-to-end international patient services including visa, transfer, accommodation and medical interpreter are provided.
