About diagnosis, treatment and recovery
Which method (RIRS, PCNL, mini-PCNL, URS, ESWL) is right for me for a kidney stone?
The method follows stone size, location, hardness and anatomy; RIRS suits medium stones, mini-PCNL/PCNL large stones, and URS ureteral stones.
How do the size and location of the stone affect the choice of method?
Incision-free RIRS suits small-to-medium stones; millimetric-access mini-PCNL/PCNL suits large, dense stones; URS gives direct access for ureteral stones.
Is RIRS really incision-free, and how is the stone reached during the procedure?
Yes; a flexible ureteroscope reaches the kidney through the urinary tract with no incision, and the stone is pulverized with laser.
Why is a DJ stent placed, how long does it stay and is removal painful?
A DJ stent is placed temporarily when needed to ease urine flow and protect the ureter; removal after a short period is usually quick and well tolerated.
What does “stone-free” mean, and is the entire stone cleared in a single session?
Stone-free means complete clearance; our aim is full single-session clearance, though the rate varies by stone size, hardness and number.
What is the difference between ESWL (shock wave lithotripsy) and RIRS/PCNL?
ESWL breaks small stones from outside with shock waves, no intervention; for large/hard stones or ESWL failure, incision-free RIRS or millimetric PCNL is used.
How long is recovery after the procedure and when can I return to work?
Thanks to incision-free or millimetric access most patients mobilize quickly; stay is usually short and timing varies by method.
Which method is most suitable for a staghorn stone?
For staghorn and large kidney stones, mini-PCNL or standard PCNL through a single millimetric puncture is usually most suitable.
What should I do to prevent the stone from recurring?
After stone-free status is confirmed, our team gives personalized recurrence-prevention advice on hydration and diet, with follow-up imaging as needed.
How does the process work for international patients?
You share your CT and tests; a second opinion and quote follow, with end-to-end support including visa, transfer, accommodation and interpreter.
