About diagnosis, treatment and recovery
What is the suitable age for otoplasty? From what age can it be done in children?
Because the ear has largely finished growing, it is usually performed in children from age 5-6 onward and in adults of any age.
Is the procedure done under local or general anesthesia?
In adults, local anesthesia is often sufficient; in children and in adults who prefer it, general anesthesia may be used. The decision is individualized.
Will I need to wear a headband after surgery, and for how long?
Yes; to protect healing and shape, a headband is typically recommended for a few weeks (often continuously the first week, then at night).
Will the procedure affect my hearing?
No. Otoplasty involves only the external (visible) part of the ear; the inner ear and hearing are not affected.
Will there be a scar?
The incision is usually in the hidden area behind the ear and fades over time; an incisionless (closed) technique can be used in suitable cases.
How long is recovery and when can I return to work/school?
Most people return to daily life within a few days; sports and impact-risk activities are postponed for a while. Timelines vary by person.
Can a single ear be corrected?
Yes; a single ear can be corrected for asymmetry, but both ears are evaluated together for balance.
Are the results permanent?
With the right technique and healing, results are permanent; rarely, minor revisions may be needed.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is painless under anesthesia; afterward there is usually mild pressure/tenderness, managed with simple pain relief.
I am coming from abroad; how does the process work?
The plan is organized end-to-end with visa, transfer, accommodation and medical interpreter support; the day-case procedure and short recovery suit travel.
