Frequently asked questions
Is plastic surgery only for aesthetic purposes?
No. Plastic and reconstructive surgery also includes the repair of tissue losses that occur after congenital differences, injuries, burns and tumor surgeries. Aesthetic interventions are a part of this field. Repair surgery aims to restore function and integrity.
Will the surgery scar disappear completely?
Surgical scars do not disappear completely. It fades and becomes less obvious over time. The location of the incision, the tension of the tissue, and the person's healing style affect the appearance. Sun protection is recommended in the first months to prevent the scar from darkening. Different methods can be evaluated for scar care.
What evaluations are made before surgery?
First of all, expectations and the limits of the initiative are discussed. Then, general health status, medications used, smoking and previous surgeries are questioned. Blood tests and imaging are requested when necessary. In repair surgery, the blood supply of the tissue is also evaluated and the plan is established accordingly.
Does smoking affect the results of surgery?
Yes. Smoking reduces blood flow to the tissue by constricting small vessels. This delays wound healing and increases the risk of problems, especially in tissue transfer procedures. Therefore, it is recommended to quit smoking for a certain period of time before and after surgery. The duration is determined by the type of initiative.
