Neuromuscular Rehabilitation in Turkey

In ALS, weakness after Guillain-Barré and nerve injury, the programme follows the course of the condition: lost strength is regained or existing function is kept. At Doruk Nilüfer.

HIGHLIGHTS

What stands out in this treatment

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)

Physician-supervised stimulation of weak or paralysed muscles; supports stepping and grasp, and helps preserve muscle mass.

Body-Weight-Supported Walking

The gait robot carries part of the body weight, so safe, repeated stepping is possible even in the weak phase.

Graded, Dosed Strengthening

Exercise starts at a dose that does not increase fatigue and is advanced as the muscles respond; overexertion is avoided.

One Shared Team

A rehabilitation physician, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, with neurology, hand surgery and respiratory teams when needed.

Insurance & agreements

Transparent payment with contracted institutions and private insurers, at home and abroad.

Accommodation & rooms

Companion-friendly modern patient rooms and in-city accommodation support.

International patient services

Visa, airport transfer and 24/7 multilingual medical interpreters.

Transparent, guaranteed price

A quote prepared from your medical information; no extra charge for the treatments it covers.

Treatment pathways in neuromuscular diseases

How the decision is made
In neuromuscular diseases, the goal of the programme depends on the course of the condition. After Guillain-Barré syndrome or nerve injury the aim is to regain lost strength; in a progressive disease such as ALS the aim is to keep function and safe independence for as long as possible. The team sets the goal with you at the first assessment.
ALS and motor neuron diseases
Keeping function · energy and breathing management.

The aim is to keep existing function for as long as possible

In ALS, rehabilitation does not stop the disease and does not replace medical treatment. Its aim is to keep existing movement and daily living skills, prevent falls and joint stiffness, and support quality of life. The programme runs alongside the treatment from your neurologist.

Exercise is planned at a dose that does not tire the muscles; when fatigue increases, the dose is lowered. Body-weight-supported walking and the balance platform help keep movement safe.

In energy-conservation work, daily tasks are planned without increasing fatigue. The occupational therapist advises on assistive devices and home adaptations.

Respiratory physiotherapy and swallowing safety are followed together with the relevant teams. The programme is updated at regular intervals as the disease progresses.

After Guillain-Barré syndrome
Gradual recovery · back to walking.

Strength is regained step by step

In Guillain-Barré syndrome, rehabilitation starts once the acute phase has been managed in hospital and the condition is stable enough. Most patients recover gradually; how long it takes and how far it goes varies from person to person. The programme is built to support this recovery at the right dose.

Overexertion can slow recovery, so strengthening and endurance work is advanced in small steps.

In the weak phase, the gait robot allows safe, symmetric stepping practice; as strength returns, walking moves from the robot to the floor.

FES is used for foot drop and difficulty with grasp. Sensory re-education is added for numbness and tingling.

Peripheral nerve injury
FES · hand robot · sensory re-education.

Muscles and joints are protected while the nerve heals

After nerve injury from trauma, compression or surgery, rehabilitation starts as early as possible, following the protocol set by the team. While the nerve heals, the aim is to prevent muscle wasting and joint restriction, then to regain strength, sensation and hand skills. Hand and nerve surgeons are involved when needed.

FES activates muscles that are not receiving nerve signals and helps preserve muscle mass; it supports movement in wrist drop and foot drop.

The upper-limb and hand robot trains shoulder, elbow, wrist and finger movements through task-oriented exercise and measures them in every session.

Sensory re-education aims to regain touch, temperature and discrimination. Splint and positioning advice helps keep joint range of motion.

Robotic gait training
Body-weight-supported, safe stepping practice.

Dosed, repeated steps on the gait robot

The gait robot carries part of the body weight and guides the step in the correct pattern. In neuromuscular patients, the aim is many repetitions without becoming exhausted; session length and the level of support are adjusted to how the muscles respond. Robotic therapy takes place at Doruk Nilüfer.

The buoyancy of water supports weak muscles

Because body weight is reduced in water, movements that are hard on land can be practised in the pool with less fatigue. A lift takes you into the pool. The programme combines balance, range of motion and light strengthening; warm water helps reduce muscle stiffness. Aquatic therapy takes place at Doruk Nilüfer.

Methods that complete the programme in all three conditions

The methods below are used to a different extent depending on the condition; which ones are needed is decided at the first assessment.

FES: Stimulation through electrode pads triggers stepping or grasp in a weak muscle. The dose and duration are set by the physician.

Contracture prevention and range of motion: A joint that stays still shortens over time. Stretching, positioning and, if needed, a splint help prevent this restriction.

Occupational therapy: Daily tasks such as dressing, eating and personal care are practised; assistive devices and home adaptations are suggested when needed.

Fatigue management: Sessions are planned with rest breaks, and the day’s tasks are ordered according to energy. Fatigue is checked in every session and the programme is adjusted accordingly.
