Urologic Cancer Treatment in Turkey

In urologic cancers, preserving continence, sexual function and kidney function matters as much as treatment. Our urology and oncology team looks after both.

HIGHLIGHTS

What stands out in this treatment

Robotic Urologic Surgery with da Vinci

Prostate, kidney, bladder and adrenal operations are done through small incisions with the da Vinci robot in suitable patients.

Avoiding Unneeded Treatment

For low-risk prostate cancer, early-stage testicular cancer and small adrenal tumors, active surveillance is considered as an option.

TREATMENTS

How we treat each organ

Urologic cancers
For urologic cancers, treatment is chosen by the organ involved, the stage of the tumor and the goal of preserving continence, sexual function and kidney function. The decision is made by our board, where a urologist, a radiation oncologist, a medical oncologist, a radiologist and a pathologist review your case together.
Prostate cancer
It has its own treatment path.

Surveillance, surgery or radiation by risk group

In prostate cancer, the path is chosen by the risk group derived from PSA, Gleason score and MRI findings. Active surveillance in low risk; otherwise robotic radical prostatectomy or radiotherapy is reviewed by the board.

Related treatmentsRelated treatments
Kidney cancer
It has its own treatment path.

Kidney-sparing robotic surgery

In kidney cancer, for small tumors the aim is to remove only the tumor with robotic surgery and keep the healthy part of the kidney. For large or spread tumors, the whole kidney is removed and drug therapy is considered.

Related treatmentsRelated treatments
Bladder cancer
It has its own treatment path.

A path that depends on muscle invasion

In bladder cancer, the first distinction is whether the tumor has grown into the bladder muscle. For superficial tumors the bladder is kept and treated from inside; if the muscle is involved, bladder removal or bladder-sparing chemoradiotherapy is considered.

Related treatmentsRelated treatments
Testicular cancer
In young men; responds well to treatment.

Orchiectomy and protecting fertility

In testicular cancer, the first step is usually removing the affected testicle through a groin incision (radical inguinal orchiectomy); this operation also confirms the diagnosis. Sperm freezing is recommended before chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The next step depends on the tumor type (seminoma or non-seminoma) and stage: active surveillance, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Related treatmentsRelated treatments
Penile cancer
Rare; preserving the organ comes first.

Organ-preserving surgery

In penile cancer, organ-preserving surgery is used for early and limited tumors; the aim is to keep function and appearance as far as possible. More advanced tumors may need partial or total removal. The groin lymph nodes are examined with a sentinel biopsy; if they are involved, they are removed and chemotherapy or radiotherapy is considered.

Adrenal tumors
Most are benign; the hormone assessment decides.

A decision after hormone testing

Most adrenal tumors are benign and are found by chance on imaging done for another reason. First, blood and urine tests measure whether the tumor produces hormones. A small tumor that produces no hormones is monitored; for a hormone-producing or large tumor, the gland is usually removed with robotic surgery.

Related treatmentsRelated treatments
Upper urinary tract tumors
In the renal pelvis and the ureter.

Robotic surgery or kidney-sparing endoscopy

Standard treatment removes the kidney, the ureter and its bladder opening in one piece with robotic surgery; if risk is high, nearby lymph nodes are removed too. A small, low-risk, single tumor can be treated from inside with a ureteroscope to spare the kidney. If only one ureter segment is involved, selected patients have it removed and the ureter rejoined robotically. As these tumors can recur in the bladder, extra treatment may be given into it, with regular cystoscopy.
