Laser Prostate (HoLEP · ThuLEP)

We remove enlarged prostate tissue with a laser, through the urinary channel and without incisions. HoLEP and ThuLEP also suit large prostates.

HIGHLIGHTS

What stands out in this treatment

No incision, even for a large prostate

The laser separates the tissue whole from its shell; a large prostate does not need open surgery.

Low bleeding

The laser seals the cut surface at the same time.

Lasting relief

Because the enlarged tissue is fully removed, the need for repeat treatment is low.

A plan from measurement

Prostate volume, urine flow and residual urine are measured; the method is chosen from them.

International patient support

Visa, transfer, accommodation and medical interpreter support.

Insurance & agreements

Transparent payment with contracted institutions and private insurers, at home and abroad.

Accommodation & rooms

Companion-friendly modern patient rooms and in-city accommodation support.

International patient services

Visa, airport transfer and 24/7 multilingual medical interpreters.

Transparent, guaranteed price

A quote prepared from your medical information; no extra charge for the treatments it covers.

TREATMENTS

About the operation

Who this operation is for, and why
In laser prostate surgery, the enlarged tissue that squeezes the urinary channel is separated from the outer shell of the prostate and removed whole. The aim is to open the urinary flow for the long term.
Why a laser is chosen

Surgery is considered when medication no longer controls the symptoms, or when problems such as urinary retention, bladder stones or recurrent infections begin.

Because the laser separates the whole tissue from its shell, even a large prostate does not need open surgery. The laser seals the cut surface at the same time, so bleeding stays low.

Before surgery, prostate cancer is ruled out with PSA and, if needed, MRI. All removed tissue is examined in pathology.

HoLEP, ThuLEP and TURP
All three remove the enlarged tissue through the urinary channel, without incisions. They differ in how the tissue is removed and which sizes they suit.

The comparison describes general features; your urologist decides the right method from your examination and prostate measurement.

What happens in the operation
The operation is done with a thin camera passed through the urinary channel; there is no cut in the abdomen.

HoLEP (holmium laser)

The holmium laser separates the enlarged prostate tissue from the outer shell of the prostate. The tissue is pushed whole into the bladder. Bleeding points are sealed with the same laser.

ThuLEP (thulium laser)

The same separation is done with a thulium laser. The laser works continuously and cuts the tissue with a smooth surface. Your urologist decides which laser is used.

Removing and examining the tissue

The tissue pushed into the bladder is cut into small pieces and suctioned out with an instrument passed through the same camera. All pieces are sent to pathology, so any hidden cancer is detected.

For men on blood thinners

Because the laser seals the cut surface, surgery can also be planned for men on blood thinners. The urologist and the doctor who prescribed the medicine decide together whether it is paused.

What to expect after surgery

A catheter stays in for a short time after surgery. When it is removed, your urinary flow is measured.

In the first weeks there may be burning, frequent urination and brief leakage; these ease over time.

Semen flowing back into the bladder during ejaculation (retrograde ejaculation) is common. It does not affect erections, but if you plan to have children it should be discussed before surgery.

TREATMENT TIMELINE

From day one to discharge

The timeline below is an average and varies by patient, diagnosis and clinical status. Exact timing and all included services are detailed in your personalized treatment offer.
Assessment
You share your symptoms, PSA result and ultrasound or prostate volume. The urologist makes a first assessment and a quote is prepared.
Examination and tests
Examination, urine flow test, residual urine measurement and, if needed, cystoscopy are done. Any suspicion of cancer is ruled out first.
Surgery
Surgery is done under anaesthesia through the urinary channel. A catheter is placed at the end.
Catheter and discharge
The catheter is removed after a short time and your urine flow is checked. Care instructions are given at discharge.
Follow-up
The pathology result and flow check are shared. After you return home, follow-up continues remotely.
Every treatment offer is presented in full detail — accommodation, transfer, interpreter and follow-up included — clearly stating what is covered.
